The Goo Goo Dolls initially formed in Buffalo, N.Y. and are responsible for the popular albums Dizzy up the Girl and Gutterflower. They have also been the recipient of several Grammy Awards for the songs "Iris" and "Black Balloon."
The Goo Goo Dolls emerged on the music scene as one of the more popular alternative rock bands of the late 1990s after getting somewhat of a slow start following their formation in 1995. After the release of a couple albums that didn't receive much traction, the Goo Goo Dolls scored a hit with the ballad "Name," thanks to heavy airplay on a Los Angeles based radio station.
After that, the group was approached to contribute to the soundtrack for the 1998 romantic film City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan. "Iris" went on to spend an incredible 18 weeks in the number one spot on the Billboard charts, and if people hadn't heard of the Goo Goo Dolls beforehand, they certainly knew who they were after the release of the movie.
The band built upon their sudden success and soon released what would become one of their most well known albums, Dizzy up the Girl. The popular release featured tunes like "Slide," "Dizzy" and "Black Balloon" and sent the band on a whirlwind tour across the United States.
Since their sudden propulsion to the top thanks to "Iris" and Dizzy up the Girl, the Goo Goo Dolls have remained in the mainstream spotlight. Their seventh studio album Gutterflower was another remarkable record that produced the catchy single "Here Is Gone."
Their latest album before Something for the Rest of Us was Let Love In, featuring the title track as well as "Without You Here" and "Can't Let It Go." It was released in 2006, so fans have been waiting patiently for another studio album full of brand new material from the New York rockers. Luckily, Something for the Rest of Us is just around the corner and it looks to be yet another solid effort from the Goo Goo Dolls. Be sure to catch the alternative rockers live on their upcoming tour and celebrate with Michigan moms in Grand Rapids this May!
